The success of every relationship hinges on your relationship with Jesus.

We spend so much time thinking about relationships. Friendships. Dating. Community. Connection. We think about who’s around us, who supports us, who understands us, and who belongs in our circle. But in the middle of all of that, there’s one relationship we often overlook: our relationship with Jesus.

The success of every relationship hinges on your relationship with Jesus. That may sound simple, but this truth changes everything.

Last week, we focused on the importance of choosing wise relationships and surrounding ourselves with good company. And this week, we discussed the value of The Holy Spirit. Because healthy relationships are not built from emptiness, striving, or insecurity. They are built from being connected to God.

Jesus says in Matthew 11: “Come to me… and you’ll recover your life.”

So many people are exhausted trying to carry emotional weight that was never meant to be carried alone. We search for people to give us peace that only God can provide. But Jesus offers something different: rest, grace, direction, and relationship.

In John 15, Jesus compares Himself to a vine and us to branches. A branch cannot survive disconnected from the vine. In the same way, we cannot thrive spiritually, emotionally, or relationally apart from Jesus. We may still look alive externally. We may still function. But disconnected things eventually dry up. Remaining connected to Jesus is what produces healthy fruit in our lives. Not performance. Not image. Not pretending. Connection.

The Holy Spirit Is Closer Than You Think

Jesus told His disciples in John 16, “It’s better for you that I leave… because the Friend will come.”

The Holy Spirit is not distant. He is our comforter when life feels heavy. Our helper when we feel weak. Our guide when we don’t know what to do. Our reminder that we are never alone. You were never meant to navigate life disconnected from God.

Question: Do you know who lives in Your house?

Here's your reminder: “Before we invite others into the house, we have to become aware of who lives in the house.”

Before evaluating everyone else around us, we have to ask:

  • What fills my heart?
  • What leads my decisions?
  • Am I making room for God daily?
  • Am I truly aware of the Holy Spirit?

Because the relationships we build externally are often reflections of what’s happening internally.

God never intended for you to walk through life isolated. But He also never intended for you to do life disconnected from Him. The foundation of healthy relationships isn’t simply finding the right people. It’s remaining connected to the right source. And when Jesus becomes your foundation, every other relationship begins to change.
