"God isn't Asking for Perfection...He's inviting You Into Connection."
If we’re honest, many of us have felt it before...the quiet pressure to “have it all together” when it comes to our faith. To pray more. To be more consistent. To feel more spiritual. To get it right. And when we don’t? It’s easy to feel distant from God. Disconnected. Like we’ve drifted too far to just come back. But what if the goal was never perfection to begin with?
The Lie of Perfection
Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing that closeness with God is something we earn. If I do enough…If I fix enough…If I get my life together…Then I’ll feel close to Him again. But that mindset quietly creates distance. Because instead of running toward God in our real, everyday moments—we wait until we feel “ready.” And sometimes… that moment never comes.
The Invitation to Connection
The truth is much simpler, and much more freeing: God isn’t asking for perfection. He’s inviting you into connection. Connection doesn’t start when everything is right. It starts when you show up. Jesus paints this picture so clearly when He says:
“I am the Vine, you are the branches… stay connected to me.”
Branches don’t strive to become something they’re not. They stay connected to their source, and life flows from that place. This is the kind of relationship God is inviting us into. Not performance. Not pressure. But presence.
What Connection Looks Like in Real Life
Connection with God isn’t always a long prayer or a perfect routine. Sometimes it looks like:
- Whispering a quick prayer in the middle of a busy day
- Choosing peace instead of reacting in frustration
- Turning your thoughts back to God when you realize you’ve been overwhelmed
- Opening your Bible for a few minutes instead of scrolling
- Simply being honest with God about where you really are
It’s not about doing everything right. It’s about staying close.
When You Feel Distant
There are seasons when God can feel far. Life gets loud. Schedules fill up. Pressure builds. And before we know it, we feel disconnected. But here’s the encouragement: Distance doesn’t mean God moved. It doesn’t mean He’s disappointed. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It simply means there’s an opportunity to reconnect. And the beautiful thing about God? You don’t have to work your way back to Him. You can turn toward Him—right here, right now.
Choosing Connection Again
Staying aligned with God isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a daily choice. A moment-by-moment returning. A quiet re-centering. A willingness to choose connection again and again. Even after a long day. Even after a hard moment. Even after drifting. You can always come back. Because He’s still there. Still present. Still near. Still inviting you in.
A Simple Reminder for This Week
You don’t have to be perfect to be close to God. You just have to stay connected. So wherever you are right now (whether you feel strong in your faith or a little disconnected) take one small step toward Him today. That’s where connection begins.
