"God doesn’t want a place on your priority list—He wants to be the center of it."

In a culture obsessed with productivity, achievement, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to treat our relationship with God as just another item to check off. We say He’s first, but is He truly the center?

In the opening message of our God First series, we were challenged to take a deeper look at what—and who—anchors our lives.

Back to the Beginning

Genesis 1:1 opens with a declaration that silences every debate: “In the beginning, God…” This isn’t just theological poetry—it’s divine positioning. God doesn’t wait for our schedules to allow Him in. He is the beginning. He is the source. And when He’s truly at the center, everything else falls into place.

Performance vs. Presence

Luke 10 introduces us to Mary and Martha—two sisters with two very different approaches to Jesus’ visit. While Martha hustled in the kitchen, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet. Martha was performing, but Mary was present. Jesus lovingly corrected Martha, not for her work ethic, but for her misaligned focus.

Are we so busy doing for God that we miss simply being with Him?

What’s Holding You Back?

The Rich Young Ruler kept all the commandments, yet something still wasn’t right. When Jesus told him to sell everything and follow Him, he couldn’t let go. His wealth wasn’t just a possession—it was his anchor.

We all have something we hold tightly—whether it’s success, approval, routine, or even ministry. But if we’re not careful, those things become barriers to a surrendered, centered life.

Gratitude That Stays

In Luke 17, ten lepers are healed, but only one returns to thank Jesus. The rest kept moving once their need was met. That raises a question for all of us: Is Jesus only at the center when we need something?

True relationship continues after the breakthrough.

Living Unworried

Matthew 6 reminds us that when we put God first, He takes care of the rest. He doesn’t just want to give us peace—He is our peace. When we seek Him above all else, we live free from fear and full of faith.

Final Thought:

God isn’t asking to be scheduled in. He’s asking to be the center of your life—the source, the anchor, and the reason behind every “yes” and “no.”

Let’s stop striving for balance and start living with Him at the center.
